Apples are Korea's favourite fruit
According to a recent study bu the Rural Development Administration, apples are Korean's favourite fruit.
A study was conducted of 732 households to figure out which fruits they bought from December 2009 to November 2013. These households spend an average of $73,620 per year on apples, the highest spending among their purchases of fruits.
"Unlike other fruits, apples are loved all-year-round and especially for holidays as they are often prepared for a ritual table for Chuseok or Korean Thanksgiving and any other ancestral memorial services." researchers said.
Koreans spent the second most on clementines at $59,307, followed by grapes at $54,643 watermelons at $45,409 and strawberries at $39,527.
Apples were also purchased most frequently at 8.7 times a year on average, nearly four times more than pears, which were purchased the least at 2.3 times.
